| Contact your Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) about support in Scotland after the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme ended. The UK-wide scheme, which let churches reclaim VAT on listed building work, has closed. This will make essential church repairs and improvements in Scotland more expensive and add pressure to already limited budgets. The key question is how the Scottish Government will respond. A new Parliament is now in place, and with MSPs taking up constituency and regional casework, now is a good time for congregations to raise the issue clearly.
The UK Government has introduced a replacement fund for England only, so support in Scotland is now a matter for the Scottish Government. Congregations are encouraged to write to all eight MSPs covering their area. Individual messages from constituents are more effective than all using a standard text, so office-bearers, members and church users should write in their own words.
